Parenting Classes offered in collaboration with the Paulding County Department of Job and Family Services

Active Parenting Classes

The OSU Extension Office facilitates Active Parenting Classes throughout the year.  We offer courses that are designed to meet the needs of parents who have children at different age levels. Call 419-399-8225 to find out more information regarding classes or to register.

1,2,3,4 Parents - designed to help parents of young children, from the ages 1-4, understand the developmental stages of their children and learn basic discipline Kidsmethods.  Four basic and easy to use techniques are taught for disciplining children while building positive self-esteem.  The developmental stages of children and identifying appropriate behaviors during ages 1 - 4 are discussed during these three sessions.

Active Parenting Now - teaches parents of children between the ages 5-12 how to develop self-esteem, responsibility, and cooperation in their children as well as teach effective discipline methods that are useful in today's Democratic society.  This six session class discusses using I messages, Logical Consequences, Problem Prevention/Solving talks and Active Communication skills to help build a positive relationship.

Active Parenting of Teens - encourages parents to develop open communication lines and good decision making in their teenagers as well as teaching effective discipline methods. The same skills taught in Active Parenting Now are taught in these teen sessions, with special emphasis on how to deal with the current struggles and issues that today’s teenagers are facing.

Also available is information regarding:

1~2~3 Magic -   A basic discipline method to use with children, especially those with Attention Deficit Disorder, that allows you to enforce rules without yelling, screaming, or  “losing it.”  This simple to use technique may be taught in both of the 1, 2, 3, 4 Parents and Active Parenting Now classes.

Smart Steps -  These self-study materials are for step-families that are learning how to manage living in a newly formed household. This information discusses myths and realistic expectations for stepfamilies, as well as techniques for managing behavior.

Baby Time - For parents of newborns under the age of 12 months to discuss basic baby care, nutrition, and development.

Parenting the First Year Newsletter

First-time parents in Paulding County are offered a series of twelve newsletters titled Parenting the First Year. Each month of the infant's first year, the parents receive an age relevant newsletter offering information on language, development, nutrition, health, safety, child care and much more.  They are provided through the generous support of the Paulding County Department of Job and Family Services and the
Welcome Home program at the Paulding County Hospital.

If you are a first-time parent residing in Paulding County and would like to be included
